On the 15th August at Cologne, she was mastered the English pretenders Dame Malliot and Barney Roy to win the 58th Preis von Europa (Gr1). Donjah has already proven her credentials- the Preis von Europa is her first Gr1 victory, but she has already won two Group races, and finished second in the Grosser Preis von Baden last year. This was the race that launched Ghaiyyath towards the summit of the international rankings. She also finished third in the 2019 running of the Preis von Europa.
Donjah is trained by Henk Grewe, leading trainer in Germany (where the rankings are fixed by number of wins). He explained « Donjah is a horse apart. She is fantastic. Now she is a Group 1 winner. Our plan is to aim for the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe. She has nothing to lose and everything to win. She has achieved everything that we have asked of her. We would like her to run in the Grosser Preis Von Baden (Gr1), before heading to the big French race. 2020 is her final year of competition…. » The Grosser Preis von Baden was won by Danedream in 2011 prior to her Arc success.
Currently Donjah is 100/1 in the UK betting market for the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (Gr1). However, it is quite likely that the bookmakers are waiting for the Grosser Preis von Baden to adjust her odds. The bookmakers in Germany have priced her at 51/1.
Donjah carries the colours of Darius Racing, the racing operation of Dr Stefan Oschmann, one of the most active owners in Germany. He is the CEO of Merck, a pharmaceutical company which employs over 53,000 people across the world.
