Prix du Jockey Club

The Prix du Jockey-Club, inaugurated in 1836, is one of the highlights of the Flat racing season and the second-richest race of the year in France. At the end of 2,100 metres, it crowns the best three-year-old colt or filly each year. It is run at prestigious Chantilly racecourse and the winner will be expected to take on the world’s best thoroughbreds on the first weekend in October in the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

The most important European Derby

Organised by France Galop, the Prix du Jockey-Club is one of the best of Europe’s Derbys. Like the Epsom Derby (2,400 metres), it is the principal target for the best three-year-old colts (and occasionally fillies). It is run over 2,100 metres. Thanks to the 1.5 million Euros on offer, of which 857,100 Euros is paid to the winner, this international Group 1 race is the second most valuable race after the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe in the French calendar.

The race is run on the “Jockey-Club track”, installed in 1877 at Chantilly racecourse. This track is very demanding on account of a 600-metre straight that rises by 10 metres up towards the winning post. It is the ideal testing ground for thoroughbreds, which must display all of their power and application under the gentle steering of their jockeys. In 2014, the British-trained The Grey Gatsby and his jockey Ryan Moore, who was crowned the 2014 Longines World’s best jockey, won the Prix du Jockey Club.

Chantilly is a unique site, known all over the world thanks to its exceptional heritage and its architectural and cultural history. Situated in the heart of 6,000 hectares of woodland, it is a magic triangle built around the chateau, its park, the stables, the training centre and the racecourse. It continually surprises by the originality of its fabulous surroundings and its new features. Everything is built to enchant a public that savours the action, thanks to a programme of eight races and a variety of fascinating activities.

The Prix du Jockey Club is a festival with speed and power as its themes. Not just on the track but also around the racecourse, where fabulous collector’s cars are on show.
