The Meeting of Deauville Lucien Barrière

During the entire month of August the racing community moves to its summer quarters at Deauville, on the Normandy coast. These are four intense weeks with 18 racing days programmed at Deauville-La Touques racecourse, which is managed by France Galop. That embraces 148 races (six of them Group I), more than 2,000 runners and 7.5 million Euros distributed in prize-money.
The Grand August Meeting of Deauville Lucien Barrière is without doubt the most important sporting destination of the summer.

In the summer, Deauville-La Touques racecourse, situated in the heart of the Normandy spa town, attracts the most prestigious players in the racing world and offers an outstanding, rich and varied programme of high-quality racing. Races are run on turf and on the fibretrack, over various distances, with an important programme over the straight turf track that hosts some spectacular sprinting!

During August the biggest thoroughbred owners, representatives of the major French stables, European trainers and breeders all meet at Deauville. French Champion jockeys together with internationally accomplished jockeys seduced by the exceptional programme, seize the opportunity to ride at this meeting, to which they bring their families.

Horses, trainers and holiday-makers are regularly seen on the long beaches of Deauville. At the end of August, breeders from the prestigious studs of Calvados and Orne, as well as from other areas, present their best produce for sale at Deauville’s famous yearling auction, where they can fetch prices of several million Euros!

The Grand August Meeting of Deauville Lucien Barrière is synonymous with family holidays thanks to the diverse attractions on every raceday at Deauville La Touques racecourse: Mascot Sam, the horse, and Willy, the jockey, welcome racing’s youngest fans in the “Galop Kids” club, where they can play while discovering and enjoying the world of racing. The older generation can learn how to enjoy the sport in the “Fan Zone”. This initiation to racing unfolds in the most relaxed atmosphere and visitors can sign up for the free guided tour of the racecourse. Many other surprises for spectators are in store during the Grand August Meeting.
