After the Arc Trials Sunday in Longchamp…

TRÊVE AND NEW BAY CONFIRM THEIR POSITION OF FAVOURITES IN THE QATAR PRIX DE L’ARC DE TRIOMPHE

Four and half lengths ahead for Trêve in the Qatar Prix Vermeille; Two and a half lengths for New Bay in the Qatar Prix Niel. Sunday, at Longchamp’s racecourse, the two main preparatory races for the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (October 4th 2015) have made it clear.
First of all, Trêve is more than ever candidate for a third success in the Arc, which has never been done since the creation of the race in 1920. Then, one of her most serious rivals will be the three-year-old New Bay, who also won without any effort on Sunday.

TRÊVE’S DEMONSTRATION IN THE QATAR PRIX VERMEILLE

The champion Trêve was returning Sunday in the Qatar Prix Vermeille, in order to prepare her third Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, which she has already won in 2013 and 2014. The least we can say is that she did more than reassure her supporters. After a beautiful final straight, Trêve won very easily, imposing herself with four and a half lengths in front of the second (Candarliya)… An unmistakable sign: her jockey, Thierry Jarnet had more to do to canalize Trêve’s power than to ask her to go faster!
Thierry Jarnet, immediately after the race, told Equidia: “It is exceptional. It can never be said too often. She is spectacular. In the false straight, she asked me on the bit. I was a lot on my hands, the others had settled. Trêve was waiting for only one thing, the final straight.”
Christiane Head-Maarek, Trêve’s trainer, said: “She is exceptional! She did a canter during the whole race. She won just like she did for her first success in the Arc. She is just like the filly I had at 3 years old. She is better than last year. I have never trained a mare like her, as much at ease and easily adapting herself to any kind of pace. Longchamp is her backyard garden. She loves right-hand rails, the profile of this racecourse slightly downhill. She passes the others in the false straight and flies away. We are on our way to the Arc, but she has not won it yet.  It will be something else. We should not underestimate New Bay, Golden Horn and other foreign horses.”

NEW BAY ANNOUNCED AS TRÊVE’S MAIN RIVAL IN THE ARC
In June, he had won the Prix du Jockey Club like a champion in Chantilly… After that, his trainer had decided to let him rest at the beginning of the summer, before seeing him again in August, in Deauville for an easy victory in the Prix Guillaume d’Ornano-Haras du Logis Saint-Germain. Despite these two successes, New Bay had to prove himself Sunday. Why? Because he was running for the first time over 2,400 metres in the Qatar Prix Niel, it is also the distance of the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe. Clearly, if New Bay won well his Prix Niel Sunday, he would be starting in the Arc on the 4th October. Otherwise… But no more suspense: New Bay dominated his race from tail to toe, imposing himself neatly. Despite of Silverwave’s (2nd) good comeback, New Bay struck a blow. For many, he not only won his ticket to the Arc… but he is, now, the main and maybe the only rival of the great champion Trêve!
His young jockey Vincent Cheminaud said after the race: “He is a really an unusual horse. He proved it in his last races. New Bay will gain maturity. But he is a spectacular horse, capable of adapting himself to any kind of condition. The objective today was to give him the easiest race as possible. We did it.”

POSTPONED CONFIRMS HIS SUMMER VICTORY IN THE BRITISH “ARC”
By winning the Qatar Prix Foy (the preparatory race to the Arc for horses aged 4yo and over), Postponed confirmed his success in the recent King George & Queen Elizabeth II Stakes, that are commonly named “Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe of the British summer”.
His victory on Sunday, gives him the right to participate in the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe but his success was less impressive than the Vermeille’s or Niel’s, he will have plenty to do against Trêve and New Bay, on the 4th October.
Luca Cumani, his trainer, said after the race: “He is a very difficult horse but also quite lazy and he needed that kind of pace. I was a bit preoccupied by the ground, because he had never ran on such a heavy ground. However, he did well. We will be back in three weeks and we are hoping for better ground conditions, less soft.”
