ABU DHABI POULE D’ESSAI DES POULAINS

Brametot wins by the minimum the Abu Dhabi Poule d’Essai des Poulains

The finale phase of the Abu Dhabi Poule d’Essai des Poulains (Group 1), ran on Sunday at Deauville, was the framework of a beautiful battle between two French colts, Brametot and Le Brivido. Under the colours of Al Shaqab Racing (associated to Gérard Augustin-Normand), Brametot, ridden by Cristian Demuro, managed to keep a short advantage on Le Brivido. Brametot is trained in Pau by Jean-Claude Rouget who wins for the first time this race, which is also the case for the owners and the jockey. He also offers a first Group 1 success to his sire Rajsaman, whom the first products are only 3yos, and stands at the haras de la Cauvinière. Brametot had just won one of the prep race, the Prix de Fontainebleau (Group 3). He should now run the QIPCO Prix du Jockey Club.

Jean-Claude Rouget

Trainer of Brametot (1st)

“I won’t come back on the health issue that has touched one of my barns. Brametot was lucky he wasn’t in this barn, otherwise he would not be here today. For us it is fantastic and despite the absence of around fifty horses, we are managing to do a good year. It was not easy because he had to fight against a horse that was several meters away from him and he was tough. From the stands, at the middle of the race, I thought he was defeated. I did not think he would have the strength to come back. It is very good for his owners, Al Shaqab Racing and Gérard Augustin-Normand, who were already associated on Ectot, a very good horse. Everybody works together.

He wins against a very good field. I could see seven horses capable of winning today. It is very difficult to realize, very difficult to win these races. And I had never won the Poule d’Essai des Poulains. I had told Cristian Demuro to not come too early. Brametot is not like the others. He is not big, but has a big heart. When coming back here, he was calm amongst everybody, he did not seem to be tired. The QIPCO Prix du Jockey Club is the logic. Looking at his pedigree, it should even be better for him over 2,100 meters.”

Cristian Demuro

Jockey of Brametot (1st)

“Brametot is a champion. He was well relaxed and accelerated well but Le Brivido had taken the advantage very far from us. We had to come back and Brametot was capable of placing a last acceleration to win. It is great emotion because it is the accomplishment of the work of a whole team, with a son of Rajsaman, a stallion owned by Gérard Augustin-Normand. I really liked La Cressonnière but this success pleases me even more because he is not an easy horse to ride and also because I won in the very last stride.”

Pierre-Charles Boudot

Jockey of Le Brivido (2nd)

“He did a wonderful performance because he is not very experimented. He is a very good horse. The well-paced race allowed us to wait behind, like the winner. There is really nothing between us on the finish line. It is a pity.”

William Haggas

Trainer of Rivet (3rd)

“The horse ran well and did a great effort against a well composed field. The two first ones had too many resources for him. But he did not let go and is serious until the end. He will run the QIPCO Prix du Jockey Club.”

Lanfranco Dettori

Jockey of Rivet (3rd)

“He is a good colt, regular and fighter, and he confirmed it here. He will do better on longer. The QIPCO Prix du Jockey Club is a tailored race for him.”
